If there’s confusion about the definition of marketing (See May 2015 post), I’m about to drive many crazy with the following question: What’s the difference between marketing and branding?

Marketing: The management process responsible for identifying, anticipating and satisfying customer requirements profitably.

Branding: promise delivered by establishing a significant and differentiated presence in the market that attracts and retains loyal customers.

Again please.  What does this mean?

Branding is strategic. Marketing is tactical. Marketing may contribute to a brand, but the brand is bigger than any particular marketing effort.
